Afternoon Tea with a View at the Blu Milwaukee

Hey Guys and Cheers to the Weekend!

Most of you know by now that my husband and I recently moved to Downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We had slowed down on posting for a while during our move and getting settled into the new place…. but now we’ve been so busy checking out everything this city has to offer and we have a lot of new content coming up that we can’t wait to share with you!

I want to tell you about our recent experience enjoying Afternoon Tea at the Blu Milwaukee, located on the 23rd floor of The Pfister Hotel. For starters, we’ve visited and stayed at the Pfister before as well as Blu and we are big fans of both of them…so we had to try something as cool sounding as Afternoon Tea!

Upon our arrival, we were immediately greeted by two well dressed and friendly gentlemen that were working as the Tea Butlers for that day. They brought us to our comfortable windowside table with a beautiful spread of silver serving dishes and tasteful china. We were also greeted with this incredible view from our table :).

Our Tea Butler was Stephan and he did a wonderful job of explaining all the different Rishi Teas they offer as well as the different infusion options you have to choose from.  They bring over a cart with over a dozen different teas to choose from with a wide variety of styles as well as non-caffeinated options. Stephan explained each one to us and allowed us to smell each one before deciding on a tea and an optional infusion such as apple, mint, lemon, cinnamon, mango, vanilla, and others.

We took Stephan’s recommendation and each ordered different types of tea so that we could share with one another. After a few short minutes, Stephan was back with our beautiful self pouring silver tea pots and a spread of small sandwiches and desserts.

What we liked about this is it is something different. There’s no rush with something like this. It’s a great place to go and not take your phone and enjoy an afternoon date with someone special, or catch up with some friends. Oh, and we liked that they had champagne to indulge in while you wait for your tea to brew :).

The staff was extremely attentive, but in a non-invasive way that really allows you to relax and unwind.  We also enjoyed the piano music that was just enough to add to the ambiance. I think we wound up staying about an hour and a half or so, but you could easily make it shorter or longer depending on your preference. I could also recommend this to you Mommy’s out there if you wanted to get away by yourself and get some “me-time” with a book.

So, if you’re interested in having your own Afternoon Tea with a view, then I’ll share a couple things you should know before going:

  1. They have seatings from October through March on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only from 12:30p-2p. They do fill up so don’t wait if you’re thinking about it.  They do require a credit card to book and we made ours easily by calling their reservation number at 414-935-5950.
  2. Also, it looks like to us they don’t flip your table after you leave and try to re-seat it.  It looks like each table is only sat once each day, but they spread out the reservations so the tea butlers have time to spend with you for your tea selection.  Why am I telling you this? Well, we were late to our reservation 🙂 and if you’re like me on the weekend…well it’s hard to keep the plan on schedule.  We called them and let them know we were going to be about 20 or 30 minutes late and they were extremely accommodating.
  3. The dress to me seemed pretty flexible and business-casual looked to be appropriate to us…. but if you wanted to dress up a bit fancier I don’t think you’d feel out of place at all. It’d be great for a special occasion!
  4. It is a little pricey. But the service, ambiance, and unique experience are all there to make it a worthwhile value to us.
  5. When you make your reservation you’ll have to decide which menu you want to have….they prepare the food ahead of time and it comes to you almost immediately after sitting down. You can check out their menu/prices/tea options by clicking here: Afternoon Tea Menu. You don’t have to decide anything on the actual tea varietals beforehand as they bring them all to you to decide.
  6. For the menu, they have a sweets only option, gluten free/vegetarian option, kids menu, and a sweet+savory option.  We did one sweets only as well as the Sweet+Savory and it felt right. The food was good, but it is not the reason to go to this. My recommendation here would be to have brunch or lunch beforehand and then schedule your Afternoon Tea about 2-3 hours after that for some Tea and Dessert!

Let me know if you’ve done this at the Blu/Pfister or if there is something similar in your town. We would love to check it out during our travels! Also, feel free to ask any questions you have about Afternoon Tea at the Blu. Have a great weekend everyone!

Great pictures! What camera and lens do you use to shoot? Xo, Andrea // www.adorechicago.com

Thank you so much AndreA! My husband used his Nikon D810 and Nikkor 24mm 1.4G lens for all of the shots in this blog post with no flash/lighting. Its really good for tight spaces like this and low light so we use it inside of restaurants/bars. Most of the shots on my website/instagram are not taken with the 24mm 1.4 lens though. About 80% of the shots on my blog are with my husband's Nikon D810 with Nikkor 85mm 1.4G. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

did an afternoon tea with my girlfriends last year at the Drake chicago and we loved it! I hope to take my daughter this year.

I love that they have vegetarian options available and its great to see that they cater for other dietary requirements as well. What I also love is how relaxed and charming the atmosphere which is captured wonderfully through your beautiful photos. Also what camera do you use? x

Reply to Ana

Ana thank you so much for your kind words! I'm lucky because my husband is a professional photographer so he has some really good camera gear and knows how to use it :). For this blog post he used his nikon d810 and Nikkor 24mm 1.4G (no flash) although for most blog posts he uses either his nikon d810 or nikon d5 and Nikkor 85mm 1.4G.

How fun! This looks like the perfect place for afternoon tea! I will have to check it out next time I am there!

My husband and I are spending new years in Milwaukee and I've been looking for something fancy for us to do! Definitely going to call this place and see if they have any openings that weekend still. It's so rare to find a place that offers decaf teas and an experience.

Reply to Angela

I've never been to Milwaukee. The view from your room is awesome! Tea is good for the soul!

Reply to Krystal

That is quite the view. I have never been to an afternoon tea before, but I have always wanted to.
