Philippine Trip Day 1 Video: The Winding Road to Sagada

April 4, 2017

It was around 2:00am, Philippine Standard Time, when me, together with my family and friends left Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila for Sagada, Mountain Province.

To get there we have to spend around more than eight hours on the road, nearly four hours from Manila to Baguio City and then around more than four hours from Baguio City to Sagada.  Despite the dizzying path getting to our destination, we were greeted with beautiful views along the way.

Once you get out of Baguio City, be sure to stop by at the Highest Point view deck in Atok, Benguet. It is just along the highway and easy to spot.  At an elevation of 7,400ft , the Highest Point offers a stunning view of the mountain range in the area.

After arriving in Sagada, we made our way to the Sagada Pottery Training Center, which was founded in 2001 by American potter Archie Stapleton. This quaint pottery center gives tourists and visitors an overview on the art of pottery from finding clay deposits to processing clay to throwing forms on the wheel to firing the kiln. For only about 100pesos (~$2 USD) you can also try making your very own pottery.

We then made our way to Lake Danum. Sadly, it was already early in the evening when we came here and also the fog was about to settle. However, we made it in time when there is still a bit of day light.  To get a taste of the Lake’s beauty at sunset, check out this video by Anjo Pascua:

I just loved how the fog made the lake and its surrounding areas so mystical. It felt like I was in a fantasy world.

After the visit to the lake, we went Lodge Labanet to check-in our things. We then had dinner at Yoghurt House, which you can read more about in the next post or check out my guest blogger, Coffee Shop Diaries at kapediaries.wordpress.com.

For the second part of my tour, we visit the majestic Unesco heritage site and the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras. So, be sure to stay tuned!
