Unplug Yourself and Reflect in El Nido, Palawan

April 1, 2017

Recently, I’ve felt like my work has been taking over my life.  I’m sure you’ve been there, or maybe you are feeling that way now with work or school?  It can be easy to fall into the trap and to struggle to stay connected with loved ones and friends….maybe you forget to call or return a text/email when you should.

I was starting to feel that way a couple months ago, and it was one of the motivating factors for taking my recent trip home to the Philippines to see family, friends, and explore different parts of the country I had not yet visited.  Today, I want to tell you about what I learned after spending a couple days “unplugged” from internet/tv/work on El Nido Island.

Here’s 3 things I reflected on during my stay that helped me to return to work refreshed and recharged:

  1. You appreciate everything more when you just….slow down. I admit it.. the time on the island was slower than my normal day. But, I couldn’t believe how much beauty my eyes saw by paying attention to the little things. I remember asking myself, “how do I even have time to look at this white shell at the beach?” The texture and detail of the shell was mesmerizing. How did God even have time to design this? These are the questions I normally don’t have time to ask myself. I know it’s silly, but I had a moment there where I just said WOW! The world is big so let all your senses explore its majesty.
  2. Gratitude leads to happiness. The locals on the island were genuine and kind. Everywhere I went people were smiling and helpful. Although I left my island life a long time ago to work in the US, I am always thankful for the changes in my life. I am so appreciative for all the people I’ve met, the people I love, and for all the things I have accomplished along the way. I am grateful, and I am starting to realize that gratitude is ultimately my key to happiness.
  3. Every one of us is Unique. I was so fortunate to have the chance to meet truly amazing people on this trip. Each one of them has brought a different sense of energy and life to me. The waiter in the restaurant whose smile was so warm, the tour guide who was constantly making me laugh about his funny work experiences, and my travel companions who I was able to share so many laughs along the way. While each one of us is different and far from perfection, we all came from one race… the human race… full of beauty, talent, and purpose in this world.

I had so much fun during my trip and spending a few days here. If you’re interested in the place I stayed, it was at the Cadlao Resort and it’s pretty easy to get a flight from Manila to the island.  You can also find below the details on my swimsuit from Wala Swimwear along with some other ideas I’ve put together to get you ready for Summer!

My goal is to inspire others to believe in themselves, to be comfortable with what and who they are, express their own uniqueness, and to motivate people to go out and do things outside of their comfort zone. I would love to connect with you!
